ny of us have written our new year resolutions already, some are still trying to figure out who they want to be in 2017? What they want to eliminate? The changes they need to make to reach their goals? How they want to better themselves ? How do we want to impact others?
The question for me is what do we strive to achieve personally and professionally? What do we want to accomplish both big and small? Achievement
for me is not only when you have a full bank balance, it has to be a balanced life which include, great friends and relationships, a career you actually love and enjoy, a healthy lifestyle and of course putting God in all you do. Personally, living a healthy lifestyle is at the top of my priority list. It benefits all areas of my life and it’s what I’m passionate about. Therefore, a lot of my resolutions each year surround wellness. If you’re similar, or are interested in it, here are a handful of potential Wellness New Years Resolutions to consider for your list. 1. Be kind to yourself.
The number one relationship in this lifetime is the one you have with yourself, so be kind. It’s easy to put ourselves down, feel less than, compare ourselves to other people. It's time to shake that off. Life is too short to spend it at war with ourselves. I know it’s easier said than done and some of this is deep-routed, so please take the right steps to get there. This may require therapy, meditation, medication, apologizing to people that you’ve done wrong to, owning your past and accepting it as a badge of pride instead of shame. Whatever it is that you are fighting with, work to fix it. You will be liberated and only you have the power to do that. 2. Love and take care of your body.
“If you don’t take care of your body, where else are you going to live?”. No matter how healthy or unhealthy you are, please add this one to your resolutions as it will manifest differently for everyone. For example, you may need to change your eating habits because you’re polluting, or neglecting your body. You may need to drink less alcohol, quit smoking, stop being a couch potatoes and move your body more. Stop the compulsive extreme exercise, drink more water, get more sleep, have more sex, go see that doctor you’ve been meaning to see but haven't had time to. Whatever it is you need to do, you probably already know it. Be honest with yourself and write those things down so that the words stare right back at you. Then make the changes. 3. Be mindful.
Be present in your own life. When you’re sitting across from a friend, or partner, listen to them, connect with them, talk to them (get off your phone and stop stressing about the work you need to get home to afterward). Whatever you’re indulging in enjoy it! Don’t get stuck reflecting on your worries, fears, and regrets while taking each bite. Whatever it is that you’re doing, get off autopilot and be in the moment. 4. Schedule less
. The world we currently live in is full of programs, internet, apps, electronic and mobile devices. Infact, we live in an over-programmed, over-scheduled world full of commitments. And as it turns out, a recent study proves that scheduling leisure time with friends—for movies, drinks, bike rides, can make these otherwise enjoyable activities feel like chores, which is often why we cancel them. Make plans for things you love doing instead. 5. Clean up the toxins.
In my opinion, it’s really important that we all think about what we’re putting in, on and around our bodies on a daily basis. From the food we put in our bodies, to the cleaning supplies we smear all over our homes, to the beauty products that we fill our pores with, to the detergents/dry cleaning chemicals that line our clothes, to the air we breathe in, and the water we drink, the chemicals are REAL and they’re causing major problems including death. I recommend making it not only a 2017 goal but a life goal to eliminate toxic chemicals where you can. It’s a continual process that takes time and we’ll never be able to avoid all the bad stuff, but taking control where we can is important. 6. Surround yourself with people who have similar interest as you..
This may sound corny but it’s true. The company you keep has a tremendous impact on your life so seek wisely. If you’re looking to grow professionally, find a mentor and lean in. This will require a lot of effort and an open mind but it will pay off. If you’re a mom and really admire the way another mom you know parents, spend more time with them, ask questions. If there’s someone in your life who you really connect with, someone that makes you feel like the best version of yourself, make them more of a priority, let that friendship blossom. 7. Practice gratitude.
Sometimes we worry so much about what we don't have, or what we are supposed to have instead of being grateful in our present situation. Let this be one of our most important new year resolution. In gratitude we find peace. 8. Manage your finances better.
If your finances are well managed this new year you would not experience any financial difficulties. What does this mean? This means that you should only spend what you have. Do not go over your income. Social media these days shows us how to live life in the fast lane. Well, not all you see online is totally true. So desist from following such fake lifestyle if you do not have the means to fund it. There is a saying that says "cut your coat according to your size". 9. Take up a new wellness practices.
