Instagram as many of you know is now the most trending social media platform. Everyone wants to have an Instagram account and not just that, we also want our photos to generate a good amount of likes when we post them. So what do you need to do to make sure use your photos gets the good amount of likes needed and help grow your page? The answer to that is photo editing. Knowing how to edit your images flawlessly. There are no specific rules when it comes to editing your photos as we all see things differently, as the saying goes; beauty is in the eye of the beholder! I have put together some of my tips and tricks when it comes to slaying Instagram and Facebook including my favourite apps and filters.

The days are gone of editing photographs by hand, now we have apps and Photoshop to do all the work for us we can simply tweak our imperfections on our images whether it be selfies or a candid snap from a recent event, by digitally removing blemishes or topping up that tan. Take Good Images The first point I will make is that you can’t rely on any apps no matter how many features and effects they offer to completely transform an unflattering photo into your new profile picture, you should start by capturing a good quality photograph that you are happy with. If you’re unsure of your best angles and most flattering poses, it’s great to strut in-front of the mirror when feeling your best to see what works for you, embrace your self-love! Lighting Lighting is also a key factor when it comes to photography, day-light is the most flattering lighting; avoid harsh or off-colour lighting. Lumee.com are a fabulous company that sell light-up phone cases perfect for selfies using front and back camera that are guaranteed to provide flattering lighting. Pay attention to the background and setting of your images, unless the snap is about the background, try to opt for a plain wall or curtain rather than a messy bedroom. Editing Apps The best app I have found for editing selfies is FaceTune, available on Android and Iphone from the app store, including all kinds of features such as; blemish removal, eye brighten, teeth whiten and even adjust tones of the image. SnapSeed is also a great app or editing scenic photos as you can adjust the lighting and mood of the photo, it also features exclusive filters. If you have no time for learning new apps all can be done on Instagram, my most used filters would definitely be Aden, Mayfair and Ludwig as they all work with my skin tone and highlight my best features. You can create your own effects by adjusting the brightness, contrast and saturation. I tend to find adjusting the saturation to a slightly stronger setting adds colour to your eyes and skin making you appear more tanned and your hair brighter. When using filters and editing I would recommend doing so very subtly, especially if you’re not used to doing so, as images can easily look over-edited giving them an unrealistic look, which is not often a good thing. Editing your photos can be flattering to a certain extent, keep in mind we are all different and no two selfies will ever look the same, don’t change the way you look drastically as you still want your images to resemble you and your unique features. Only fix obvious issues, as I mentioned at the start of the post; don’t expect editing to work miracles. Be sure to start with a good photo and you’re more likely to be satisfied with the outcome! I hope you’ve all enjoyed this post and would love to hear some of your editing tips and favourite filters, I trust you will all be looking beautiful in your posts!
