Florals Don’t Have to End with Summer

One of the big trends this spring and summer has been floral patterns ranging from the subtle all over flower pattern to the big and bold single floral flower.

Now autumn is coming around and attentions begin to turn to the autumn colours and it might seem like florals are over for another year

But the good news is that florals don’t have to end with summer – by using yellow!

MCM SS17 Collection

My dress is the perfect example of a summer style that carried on into autumn

The dress is a True Violet open back midi pencil dress and features a thick knitted fabric that is perfect for any season. It has a gorgeous yellow shades floral pattern with green accents on a soft background shade. The dress itself is stylish but moving around is easy with the kick split while the close cut bodycon fit accents the figure beautifully. The cut out waist detail on the back adds that two piece effect.

What am I wearing with it?

Yellow Jimmy Choo pumps highlight the yellow in the dress perfectly – remember the yellow for later! Plus a perfectly coordinating Valentino bag in the creamy yellow shade featured in the dress.
Why yellow?
Early in the year, yellow was one of the big trend colours. Okay, it might not be the colour that works for everyone and for some skin tones it isn’t great. Plus some people aren’t fans of some of the yellow shade – keep it on the school bus is one response. Yet at the beginning of spring, yellow seemed to be everywhere. There was Burberry Prorsum, Emilia Wickstead and a number of others who were all showing the benefits of the full-on yellow.
One thing to remember about yellow is that it isn’t all about school bus yellow or sunflower yellow. There are some beautiful soft creamy floral tones, subtle lemon shades and darker mustard colours. The latter is another good one to remember for autumn as mustard yellow is a great traditional autumn colour. Think the yellow-browns and yellow-oranges of falling leaves for other inspiration.

Yellow also works well as an accent colour as seen in my True Violet dress

Two shades can be seen alongside a creamy shade and either of these could be used for accessories as I have shown. Plus there’s the green, a slightly grey-green floral shade that is another autumn favourite. You could always pull that colour out for another set of coordinating items with the dress. Many of you know I love to pin my Chanel brooch to so many of my outfits. Well, here it is again. It gives the dress a different feel and look which I love.
If you’re up for a bit of floral in your wardrobe, here is my pick.

There’s no question that the weather can be hit and miss in autumn so a dress like this is perfectly adaptable. Leave it alone when the sun shines or add a layer when the weather turns chilly. Plus there’s no doubting from the big names on the catwalk that floral patterns continue to be popular into the autumn and possible even winter collections meaning there’s no need to banish your favourite florals just because summer has come to an end.
Have a great week you all.
Love
Ivy
